Three things businesses and entrepreneurs should know about copywriting
Updated: Feb 4, 2022
If you are looking to increase your brand’s awareness, here is what you need to know…

It still amazes me how many businesses do not have a copywriter, or don’t even know what a copywriter is. Many have heard of content marketing and content writers, but copywriting? Heck, I didn’t know what it meant until a while ago. I wish I had found it sooner, but now that I have found it, I cannot get enough of it.
The first thing you should know is that content writing is not the same as copywriting.
Copywriting connects with the audience with the goal of getting them to take action. Either buy something or click on a link, or enter their email address. Something to that effect.
Content writing involves writing and editing web content for digital marketing purposes, but in a more subtle way. It informs rather than persuades. This includes, but is not limited to blog posts, articles, social media posts, video scripts, podcast scripts, websites, etc.
The second thing you should know is that there are good copywriters and not so great ones out there.
A good copywriter takes the time to research the target audience first. Finds the perfect customer avatar or profile. Uses a specificity to the problem that needs solving and identifies it. Then a solution is presented to help your customer.
An awesome copywriter will show up, do the necessary research, spend quite some time thinking and writing about the message that will grab attention, provide credibility, dissuade objections and persuade a call to action. And they will proofread and edit it. They might also do some A/B testing (if it’s email marketing) to see which headline works best.
So, not everyone who calls themselves a copywriter, is actually good at what they do.
The third thing you should know is that you do have a need for copywriting. Even if you aren’t aware of the value. A good copywriter can create a tremendous amount of brand awareness. Using an email sequence or a sales page alone.
Add branding across all media platforms and your business is destined for more success and more profits.
I’ve been through a few programs and have had a few clients, but I don’t stop there. It’s good to have training and some experience under my belt. But, for me, being a good copywriting professional means constant development and improvement.
Practicing copy, devouring books and videos on copywriting, and getting training from the best copywriters out there. That makes for a good copywriter.
If this doesn't convince you of the value a copywriter can bring you, let’s test it, why don’t we? If you’d like valuable marketing and strategic support to bring your business to the next level, let’s talk. Email me at hello@dunncopywriting.com. I’m here to help you grow.
