Why copywriting you ask?

So, this --- is my official first blog post! I thought, what could be more fitting than telling people (and quite a few have asked me this question) first of all, what IS copywriting and why is this something that YOU want or can do? Well, I will proceed to explain, not justify how I came to this decision and why I’ve decided to just go for it!
In my career, I’ve worked in sales, investor relations, client communications, as a scrapbook designer. Yes, it’s true! I've held several administrative jobs, including being a “family manager”. My passion has always been with creativity, be it drawing, scrapbooking, writing, blogging, sewing, painting, photography… you name it, I’ve tried it. Well.. a lot of it. I also started an online degree in interior design, currently ongoing on the side. But then, I was looking a TikTok posts (very addictive, not recommended!) and there she was.... this young woman talking about her job as a copywriter.
This young woman talked about independence, being able to work virtually anywhere in the world if she had internet access and earning a not-too-shabby amount of money. My first thought was, “Uhm, what the HECK is copywriting??”. That’s the first thing I looked up. Then, I thought to myself -- Well, I’m sure the market is totally OVERRUN with copywriters. Yet, it intrigued me, so I began doing some research. I signed up for a copywriting course at a pretty cool academy and came to find out that there is actually not that much competition. Copywriters (good copywriters) are insanely sought after!
So, this is where we are at. I am now getting into my groove, still reading all I can about the copywriting business and soaking it up like a sponge. I can’t get enough of it. I do believe I’ve found MY thing, my passion and I can’t wait to unleash it on the world and help companies and solopreneurs thrive in their business. Because,...drum roll, that’s the power of copywriting!
Now, you may still be wondering “I still don’t know what copywriting is!” Let me explain: Copywriting is about producing engaging, clear text for different advertising channels such as websites, print ads and catalogs. This involves connecting with the target audience (i.e. the customer/reader) researching keywords, producing interesting written content and proofreading work for accuracy and quality. For the most part, it’s the art of persuasion (not in a salesy way either), speaking to the emotions of your reader and persuading them to act. Be it clicking on a button to sign up for a newsletter, making a purchase or just getting more information on what they're interested in.
As an empathetic communicator, this is totally my gig! I love to find out what makes people tick, what makes them do the things they do. It’s the psychology of it, the art of it and the creativity involved. Although, copy doesn’t have to be creative, but it should call the person to take some kind of action.
